The proposal includes alterations to the permitted windfarm (Kerry County Council planning ref 19/381) ( An Bord Pleanala ref- PL08.304807), the permitted 38 kV substation at the wind farm is to be relocated and redesigned. The altered substation proposal will be located in a new substation compound that includes a control building, and all associated electrical plant and apparatus, fencing, and an access track within the townland of Aghanagran Lower. The proposed substation at the windfarm will be connected to the windfarm via underground cabling from Turbine T4. The project includes all ancillary and associated works necessary to facilitate the development, including three temporary construction compounds. A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development and accompanies this application.

• KE005-022 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 23.6m N-S, 24.6m E-W Coolbeg Fort/Cúil Bheag (small nook). The Ballyline River runs W of this site which is situated in the corner of a field. This univallate ringfort consists of a circular inner area enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The enclosing bank of earth and stone measures 1.1m above the fosse and on average .6m above the interior. The external fosse encloses the whole site except to the E where it is cut slightly by a fieldbank running N-S. The width of the fosse measures c 2m and .5m below the height of the surrounding land. The bank contains many breaks, but the main ones are to be noted NE, SW and NW, measuring c 3m, 2m and 2m respectively. The interior is at much the same level as the surrounding land, and two rectangular discolorations in the grass in the interior of the N sector could possibly mark house-sites.   Description

  Internal diameter 33m N-S, 32m E-W This site is situated on slightly rising pastureland with good views in all directions. The Ballyline River runs SW of the site. The site consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank and exterior fosse. The enclosing bank is best preserved to the E and S and measures a maximum height of 1.6m externally and .7m above the interior. The width of the bank at the base measures 4m. Except from the NE to E, a slight flat-bottomed fosse 2m wide and c .6m deep is evident. Three gaps in the bank to the E, SSE and SSW measure 4m, 5m and c 4m respectively.   Description

  Internal diameter 37.7m Meelish Fort/Maol-lios (flat ringfort). This univallate rath is situated on high ground and has an extensive view of the surrounding land. It consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank 1.6m above the surrounding land and .7m above the interior. The width of the bank at the base ranges from 2m-4m.   Description

  Marked 'Giant's Grave' on the 1841-42 OS map and 'Giant's Grave (Site of)' on the later edition of 1914-15. This appears as a rectangular structure on the earlier map, though no surface trace survives today. The Ballyline river lies E of this site, flowing N-W.
