The proposal includes alterations to the permitted windfarm (Kerry County Council planning ref 19/381) ( An Bord Pleanala ref- PL08.304807), the permitted 38 kV substation at the wind farm is to be relocated and redesigned. The altered substation proposal will be located in a new substation compound that includes a control building, and all associated electrical plant and apparatus, fencing, and an access track within the townland of Aghanagran Lower. The proposed substation at the windfarm will be connected to the windfarm via underground cabling from Turbine T4. The project includes all ancillary and associated works necessary to facilitate the development, including three temporary construction compounds. A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development and accompanies this application.

  Description

  Internal diameter 34m This univallate rath has been completely enclosed by a fieldbank that curves with the site, thus giving it a bivallate look. The circular area is enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank and exterior fosse. The maximum external height of the enclosing bank measures 1.3m and internally .7m. On average the width of the bank at the base measures 5m. The entrance may have been to the E where a 3m wide gap provides access to the interior. The above description is derived from C.   Description

  Situated W of a univallate rath (KE005-090----), this enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 OS map and is sub-D-shaped. On the later map of 1914, though still marked, its shape has altered. Today this site has been completely ploughed out and a faint trace of an enclosing bank running from E to S can still be seen, though now barely distinguishable.   Description

  Internal diameter 35.7m N-S Situated one field E of a now levelled enclosure (KE005-089----), this univallate rath consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank. It is on average 3.6m wide and rises to 1.2m externally and .9m above the interior. The enclosing bank is broken in many places by cattle. The interior is at a higher level than the surrounding land and a slight rise would appear to exist in the W sector, though due to the overgrowth it is difficult to determine whether it is of archaeological significance. • KE010-020 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 28m This extremely overgrown univallate rath consists of a circular area enclosed by a bank and an exterior fosse. The enclosing earthen bank is on average; 6m wide at the base, 1.4m high above the fosse and .3m-1m above the interior. The external fosse is shallow and varies from .7m-2.8m wide and c .7m deep. It is best preserved to the N to NE, whereas it cannot be distinguished from the NE through S to W. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
