The proposal includes alterations to the permitted windfarm (Kerry County Council planning ref 19/381) ( An Bord Pleanala ref- PL08.304807), the permitted 38 kV substation at the wind farm is to be relocated and redesigned. The altered substation proposal will be located in a new substation compound that includes a control building, and all associated electrical plant and apparatus, fencing, and an access track within the townland of Aghanagran Lower. The proposed substation at the windfarm will be connected to the windfarm via underground cabling from Turbine T4. The project includes all ancillary and associated works necessary to facilitate the development, including three temporary construction compounds. A Natura Impact Statement has been prepared in respect of the proposed development and accompanies this application.

  Description

  Internal diameter 30m N-S, E-W Situated SW of KE005-055----, this univallate rath has a fieldbank running immediately N. The circular inner area, which is very overgrown, is enclosed by an earthen bank 5m wide and raised 1m above the interior and 1.2m above the fosse.   Description

  A small circular enclosure is marked on the 1841- 42 and 1914 OS maps. It was situated SE of Kilgarvan's disused children's burial ground (KE005-056001-).   Description

  This site consists of a large circular area (KE005-056002-) which is enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank. A roadway runs in a N-S direction along the exterior side of the bank. The internal diameter N-S measures 52m, and 56m E-W. The external height of the bank ranges from 1m-1.8m, the internal height measures .8m and the width of the bank at the base measures c 5m. The interior is at much the same level as the surrounding land. In the NW sector of the interior some large blocks of stone are to be noted, but whether this is their original position or not is questionable. Two main breaks are to be noted in the N bank measuring c 4m in width, and one to the SW which measures c 3m in width.   Situated in the corner of a field, this site has extensive views in all directions. A circular enclosure is marked on the 1841-42 and 1914 OS maps and can also be seen on the Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs (1974). • KE005-058 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 27m N-S, 31m E-W Situated E of KE005-057----, this sub-circular univallate rath is enclosed by a bank which, though well defined, has been fairly broken up by cattle breaks. The enclosing earthen bank rises to a maximum height of 1.7m externally and 1.2m above the interior. The interior is at a slightly higher level than the surrounding land and is somewhat overgrown. There is a local story that a souterrain leads from this site to the nearby children's burial ground (KE005-056001-) to the SW. The above description is derived from C.
