Description
Internal diameter 26m N-S, 26m E-W Situated on gently sloping pastureland with fair views in all directions, this site consists of a circular area enclosed by a bank and exterior fosse. The enclosing earthen bank survives to a maximum external height of 2.4m and 1m above the interior. The width of the bank at the base measures on average 5m. A flat-bottomed fosse encloses the site except to the N to NW, where it is not distinguishable. Elsewhere it ranges between 1.4m-2.4m in width and is c 1m deep. The interior is at a slightly higher level than the surrounding land and three main gaps exists to the S, E and NW, measuring 3m, 3m and 4.6m respectively. The above description is derived from C. Description
Internal diameter 18.4m N-S, 20.3m E-W This univallate rath has an excellent view of the surrounding country. A circular area enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank and exterior fosse, the bank to the W has been levelled due to drainage works. The height of the bank measures .8m externally and .6m above the interior. The width of the bank at the base measures 3.5m. The enclosing fosse is flat bottomed, 1.2m wide and .4m deep. Description
Internal diameter 30m N-S, 38m E-W This univallate rath is situated on slightly boggy land and lies SW of KE005-076----. The site consists of an oval area enclosed by an earthen bank and exterior fosse. The maximum height of the bank measures 1.5m externally, and 1m internally. The fosse exists for the whole site except to the N to NE where it cannot be distinguished; elsewhere it measures 1.6m wide and .5m deep. The entrance would appear to lie to the SE, where it measures 2.4m in width. In the interior in the S sector is an oblong mound, 9.7m x 3.6m externally. Description
This sub-circular raised enclosure is situated NE of a univallate rath (KE005-082----). It has been cut by a fieldbank running NE-SW. Internal diameter 25.4m N-S, 29m E-W This univallate ringfort is situated in low-lying boggy land and is very overgrown. The site consists of a circular area enclosed by a well-defined bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. The height of the bank rises to 1.8m above the fosse and .8m above the interior. The entrance may have been to the S and is stone lined. The enclosing fosse is .75m-3m wide and c .7m below the height of the surrounding land. Immediately SSW of this ringfort lies a possible rectangular bawn (KE005-081002-), which is 27m x 18.6m and .4m high. The above description is derived from C. Internal diameter 33m N-S, 33.4m E-W Situated at the bottom of a field, this site has a fieldbank running in a NW-SE direction along the SW sector. A univallate rath, it consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank. This enclosing bank is 1m high externally and .8m above the interior. Due to drainage works the fosse has been completely ploughed out, except to the SE where it is traceable for 19m. It measures 3m wide and c .5m deep. The above description is derived from C. - KE005-084 Ringfort - rath
Description
Internal diameter 25m N-S, 29.4m E-W This site is a circular bivallate rath situated in the corner of a low-lying pastoral field. The circular inner area is enclosed by a well-defined earthen bank which rises to .8m above the interior and .8m- 2.3m above the intervening fosse. The fosse encloses most of the inner area, except for c 26m along the N sector, due to a fieldbank cutting through it in an E-W direction. The fosse varies from 1.6m-2.4m in width. The outer bank encloses most of the site, except to the SW through W to NW; it is 4m-12m wide at the base, .3m high above the fosse and .7m high above the surrounding land. On its S side the bank is much wider at the base, and extending out of the bank in an E direction is a c4m wide bank. This bank travels for 43m before touching a sub-rectangular enclosure. The entrance would appear to be to the SE in the inner bank, where it measures 5m in width. There is no corresponding break in the outer bank. The overall diameter of this site is 54m N-S and E-W. The sub-rectangular enclosure (KE005-085----) is aligned NW- SE on its long axis and is 31.2m x 14.8m x .6m high. This enclosure could be a bawn connected to the fort for the protection of animals.
