• KE058-059 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on an E-facing slope. This rath is indicated on the 1846 and 1894 OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m) bisected by an E-W field boundary. It has been levelled and its outline is evident either as a slight rise or scarp along the SW, NW and NE arcs. Along the SE arc, a scarp (H 2.5m) survives. A fosse (Wth 2m at base) is visible ESE-S, outside of which is an outer bank (Wth 5.9m; ext. H 1.3m) ESE-SSE. An E-W field boundary bisects the interior.   Description

  In a rath (KE058-059----). The landowner recalls a souterrain, which was covered with a stone, in the W half of the rath. This was subsequently infilled and there are no visible remains of it.   Description

  In rough, level, poorly drained pasture. Reported to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland as the low remains of a large enclosure (wetland). Oval area (dims. 18m N-S; 12m E-W) defined by scarp (Wth 2m; H 0.2-0.25m) S->W->NE; scarp not discernible NE->S due to dense growth of vegetation. Heavy growth of rushes and occasional clumps of briars across this area. No potential feature depicted at this location upon OS historic mapping. • KE058-513 Standing stone
  Description

  In improved pasture, situated toward base of S-facing slope of small pasture field. Single upright stone of green sandstone/shale (H 1m; Wth 0.5m; L 0.75m max.) is orientated long-axis ENE-WSW. Stone is cut slightly into hillslope. Sub-rectangular in plan with generally flat faced sides which are partially covered in white lichens and moss. Top of stone is relatively flat point that slopes down gently to SW. Sappers mark upon upper surface is obscured by moss and is depicted upon later OS six inch maps.
