  Description

  Situated in flat pastureland with the Shannon estuary 165m N. The stone stands 1.36m high and is a maximum of 1.3m wide at the base and an average of 2.1m thick. • KE001-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 28m N-S, 27m E-W This univallate rath is situated on a rise and has a commanding view of the River Shannon and the coast of Co. Clare. It consists of a circular area enclosed by a well-defined bank that measures 1.5m externally, 1.8m internally and varies between 3m-6m in width at the base. There is a slight trace of a fosse in the SW sector, which runs for c14m and measures 1m in width and .4m below the surrounding land. The entrance lies in the E sector and is 3.5m wide.   Description

  Immediately NE of (KE001-010----) lies a univallate rath, A small stream runs along the W sector of the fort. This site was completely inaccessible and measurements could not be taken. • KE001-010 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 28m N-S, 26m E-W This rath consists of a circular area enclosed by a bank. The S side has been incorporated into a fieldbank. Its situation on the side of a hill sloping in a N direction necessitated the building up of the bank to different levels at different sections of the site. The external height of the bank above the surrounding land measures c1.5m, the height above the interior varies from .6m to 1.2m and the width of the bank at the base varies between 3m and 5m.   Description

  Internal diameter 27m N-S, 26m E-W This site lies S of a rath (KE001-010----). It is situated in sloping pastureland and consists of a low earthen bank enclosing a sub-circular area. • KE002-011001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 33m N-S, 39m E-W This roughly circular area is enclosed by an earthen bank. To the E the bank has been levelled and all that remains is a gentle slope towards the interior. Elsewhere the earthen enclosing bank is 1.2m high externally and c .8m high internally. On the interior side of the S bank is another earthen bank extending W-E for 38m in total and measuring .5m externally and .5m above the interior. There is a distance of 3m between this bank and the outer enclosing bank. Three gaps NW, SW, and S measuring 2m, 1.5m and 9m respectively, provide access to the interior of the site.   Description

  This well does not appear on any edition of the OS maps and must be classed as only a possible holy well. Situation and Description: This well is situated in the E sector of a rath (159), on the exterior side. It is a drystone lined, semi-circular trough.
