Description
Internal diam. 23m N-S, c. 23m E-W Located on the crest of a low rise overlooking the Ferta river to N, this circular univallate rath commands extensive views to E and S. The N and E sectors of the enclosing elements are no longer extant and a field boundary obscures portion of the site at E. At S and W the earthen bank is surrounded by an external flat-bottomed fosse, 2m wide. The bank rises 1.6m above the fosse and falls 1m to the level interior. No features are apparent in the overgrown interior. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 520. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 29 July 2013
