  Recorded on Taylor's 1783 Map of County Kildare as circular feature, and shown as an enclosure named 'Moat' on a manuscript map in the National Library of Ireland (NLI Ms 21.F.35 (1727-1838) Map 43). Not recorded on any edition of the OS 6-inch mapping, the latest ed. of which (1938-9) shows the engine house at Sallins train station on the presumed location of the site. Pitched slate roof centred on flat roof (breakfront), ridge tiles, cut-granite coping to gables with red brick Running bond chimney stacks to apexes having capping supporting yellow terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on cut-granite eaves retaining cast-iron octagonal or ogee hoppers and downpipes. Part repointed coursed rubble limestone walls with drag edged rock faced cut-limestone flush quoins to corners; rendered surface finish (breakfront). Square-headed openings in pseudo tripartite arrangement with concealed dressings framing two-over-four timber sash windows centred on timber boarded double doors.   Single-span iron footbridge over railway line, c.1870, approached by pair of flights of steps. Renovated, c.1995, with span replaced. Red brick walls to flights of steps. Round-headed blind openings following gradient of steps with red brick voussoirs (recessed openings under summits forming open arcaded shelters). Cut-granite steps over having cast-iron railings. Replacement single-span footbridge, c.1995, over railway line with iron mesh parapet walls having iron-clad roof over.

  Group of six terraced three-bay single-storey rubble stone houses, c.1905, with single-bay single-storey gabled projecting shared porches. Individually renovated, c.1980-c.2000, with at least one retaining original aspect. Gable-ended roof (shared) with slate (gabled to porches). Clay ridge tiles. Red brick chimney stacks (some rendered). Decorative timber eaves and bargeboards. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Rubble limestone walls (some painted). Square-headed openings. Stone sills. Red brick dressings. 2/2 timber sash windows (some replacement timber and uPVC casement windows, c.1980-c.2000). Timber panelled doors (some replacement glazed timber and uPVC doors, c.2000). Set back from road in own grounds. Lawns to front (west). Rendered boundary wall to front.

  Single-arch cut-stone hump back road bridge over canal, c.1870. Extensively renovated, c.1995. Coursed cut-stone walls to central section. Cut-stone stringcourse to spring of arch. Cut-stone piers. Cut-stone coping. Replacement iron railings, c.1995. Rubble stone curved flanking walls. Single round arch re-inforced, c.1995, with pre-cast concrete panels. Sited spanning Grand Canal. Grass banks to canal with cut-granite kerbing.

  Single-arch dressed stone railway bridge over road, c.1870, with rock-faced granite voussoirs and dressed stone coping. Renovated, c.1990. Coursed dressed stone walls. Cut-stone stringcourse to spring of arch. Cast-iron tie plates. Cut-stone coping. Replacement concrete block, c.1990, to parapet walls with replacement iron railings over. Single round arch with rock-faced voussoirs and yellow brick soffits. Sited spanning road as part of Great Southern and Western Railway line.
