  Description

  In pasture on the top of a gentle-sided but commanding ridge. A subcircular area (int. diams. 29m E-W; 26m N-S) is defined by an earthen bank (av. Wth 4m SW-W-NW to 8m NW-E-SW; int. H 0.25-1m; ext. H 1-1.4m). Traces of possible stone facing (H 0.95m) survive on the inner face of the enclosing bank at NW and N. The bank has livestock gaps at NNW (Wth 1.5m) and SSW (Wth 2m) and is reduced to an external scarp (H 1.2m) along the ESE. A rectangular haggard or garden (int. dims. 17m N-S; 5m E-W) enclosed by loose stone walling abuts the rath at ENE. This is partially recorded on the first edition (1837) of the OS 6-inch map where it is shown between the monument and a roofed house to the E. Two adjoining corn kilns partially built into the enclosing bank of the rath in the NE sector are also recorded on this OS map but are no longer visible.  Date of visit: 12-12-2024 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Leo Morahan

• MA070-096 Fulacht fia
  Description

  In lowlying, damp pasture, flanked c. 50m to W and c. 100m to E by gently rising, drier ground. This fulacht fia was levelled in the past, and there are no surface indications of the mound. During pre-development archaeological testing (17E0324) in July/August 2017, part of the fulacht fia was uncovered in a test trench. The exposed portion was evident as a spread (8m NW-SE; 3.8-4.3m NE/SW) of heat-shattered stones in a matrix of black, charcoal-rich soil. No further excavation took place; the fulacht fia was covered and a buffer zone was implemented to exclude it from the proposed development (Pers. comm. R. Crumlish, 2017).   Description

  Single-arch hump back road bridge over river, extant 1895. Modified. Ivy-covered wall (north-west) with drag edged rock faced cut-limestone stringcourse supporting parapet having rock faced cut-limestone coping. Single segmental arch with drag edged tooled limestone ashlar voussoirs. Sited spanning Clydagh River with unkempt banks to river.
