Description
In 1986, a small group of fulachta fiadh was reported in the townlands of Cashel Upper and Lack East (SMR file). Subsequently, some 23 fulachta fiadh (MA070-053001- to MA070-053015 and MA070-053017 to MA053-024----) were identified, located along a c. 700m long section of a small stream separating the townlands of Cashel Lower and Cashel Upper to the east from Lack East and Lack West to the west: some were only visible in section faces because of the realignment of the stream to form a drainage channel and were covered by up to one metre of peat (Buckley and Lawless 1987, 32-36). Two of the fulachta fiadh provided material suitable for Carbon 14 dating and yielded dates of 830 (+/- 50) B.C and1360 (+/- 40) B.C. (Buckley and Lawless 1988, 23-25). MA070-053010- was reported in the S half of the group. On the overgrown E bank of a small NNE-flowing stream. When inspected in August 2025, no visible surface trace of the monument was found but subsurface deposits may survive intact. Date of visit: 21-8-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy

- MA070-105 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture on a narrow N-S ridge. A roughly circular overgrown area (int. diam. 24m) is defined by a round-topped inner bank of earth and stone (int. H 0.7-1.1m; Wth 5- 6m; ext. H 2-3m) in which some external stone facing (H 0.3m) survives at NE. There is an entrance gap (Wth 2m) at E. A fosse (Wth 2-3m) runs outside the inner bank outside of which a second, outer bank (Wth 4m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.4- 0.7m) is traceable SW-N-NE. A possibly later subrectangular enclosure (L 15m NE-SW; Wth 8m NW-SE) defined by a low bank of earth and stone (H 0.1m; Wth 3m) overlies the fosse just N of the entrance gap. The interior contains a possible souterrain (MA070-105001-) in the SSW sector. A second ringfort (MA070-055----) is visible c. 130m to the N. Date of visit: 7-3-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy

Description
In the SSW sector of a ringfort (MA070-105----). A large rectangular hollow (int. L 3.5m NW-SE; Wth 1.7m; max. D 1.3m) may be the remains of a robbed-out souterrain. The interior contains loose moss-covered stones and similar stones lie scattered on the ground surface about the hollow. Local tradition recalls that this was a ‘cave’ which led to a second ringfort (MA070-055----) c. 130m to the N. Date of visit: 7-3-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Leo Morahan
