  Description

• MA070-058 Megalithic structure
  Description

  On a gentle W-facing slope in poor rush-covered pasture with reclaimed pasture immediately to the N; the area containing piles of cleared rocks and boulders, with some larger boulders left in situ. Low-lying marshy ground lies to the W with ‘Lough Hemush’, a very small lake, c. 100m to the WNW. Reported as a possible megalithic structure (SMR file). No visible surface trace of a megalithic structure was found at or near the reported location. Date of visit: 13-8-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy

• MA070-060001 Ringfort - unclassified
  Description

  Recorded on the first edition (1837) of the OS 6-inch as a circular enclosure (est. int. diam. c. 35m), probably a ringfort. This map also records a ‘Cave’ (a possible souterrain: MA070-060002-) in the interior at S. However, the monument is not recorded on the later, OS 25-inch map (1907) which shows the ‘Midland Great Western Railway (Mayo Branch)’ running N-S less than 10m to the E of the site of the monument. The location is now partially rough ground on a gentle E-facing slope just W of the rail line and E of an extensively quarried out area.   Description

  Recorded on the first edition (1835) of the OS 6-inch as a ‘Cave’ (a possible souterrain) in the S sector of a probable ringfort (MA070-060001-). However, neither monument is recorded on the later, OS 25-inch map (1893) which shows the ‘Midland Great Western Railway (Mayo Branch)’ running N-S less than 10m to the E of the site of the ringfort. The location is now partially rough ground on a gentle E-facing slope just W of the rail line and E of an extensively quarried out area.
