In pasture on a level terrace just N of the highest point of a drumlin, with excellent views everywhere apart from higher ground to the S. An overgrown subcircular area (int. diams. 35m NNE-SSW; 31m NNW-SSE) is defined by the remains of an inner and an outer earthen bank and an intervening fosse. The broad inner bank (int. H 0.5-1.1m; Wth 5-8m; ext. H 1.3-2.5m) has inner drystone facing surviving at W (H 0.35m) and its outer face is poached by livestock. A gap (Wth 3m) at SE may be the original entrance. The fosse (Wth 1.22.6m; D 0.4m) survives from S-W-NE. The second, outer bank (int. H above base of fosse 0.2m; av. Wth 6.5m; ext. H 0.8m) only survives from SW-NW-NE. The overgrown interior is bisected by a later field wall running NNE–SSW. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 3-11-2025

- MA070-052 Ringfort - unclassified
Description
In pasture, with some naturally outcropping rock, near the N-facing brow of a ridge with slightly higher ground to the S. Recorded on the OS 25-inch map (1893) as a raised oval shaped area (est. diams. c. 30m NNE-SSW; c. 25m ESE-WNW) – probably a ringfort – bisected by a later field boundary running NNE-SSW through the interior. The later, Cassini edition of the OS 6-inch map (1920) only records the E-half of the monument, to the E of the later field boundary. This boundary has been removed since and the monument survives as a circular hollow area (diam. c. 20m: D 0.2m), the interior of which slopes slightly down towards the N. Description
In 1986, a small group of fulachta fiadh was reported in the townlands of Cashel Upper and Lack East (SMR file). Subsequently, some 23 fulachta fiadh (MA070-053001- to MA070-053015 and MA070-053017 to MA053-024----) were identified, located along a c. 700m long portion of a small stream separating the townlands of Cashel Lower and Cashel Upper to the east from Lack East and Lack West to the west: some were only visible in section faces because of the realignment of the stream to form a drainage channel and were covered by up to one metre of peat (Buckley and Lawless 1987, 32-36). Two of the fulachta fiadh provided material suitable for Carbon 14 dating and yielded dates of 830 (+/- 50) B.C and1360 (+/- 40) B.C. (Buckley and Lawless 1988, 23-25). MA070-053019- was reported towards the centre of the group. In a low-lying damp rush-covered pasture at the E foot of a pasture ridge. A low roughly circular stony mound (H 0.5m; diams. 6m N-S; 5m E-W) is drier and has lusher grass cover than the surrounding ground. Date of visit: 21-8-2025 Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy

H 0.8-1.25m; Wth 4-7m; ext. H 1.5-2m) and a shallow outer fosse (D 0.1m; Wth 2m) which is only clearly visible along the N. Intermittent traces of drystone facing on the inner face of the enclosing bank along the S and outer facing stones along the W (av. H 0.3m) survive. A gap (Wth 3m) at NE may be the original entrance. The partly overgrown interior slopes gently down to E. The townland boundary wall with Park townland runs NW-SE immediately outside the monument at SW.
