• OF006-081 Post row - peatland
  Description

  A series of sixteen hazel posts (L 3m; Wth 0.3m; D 0.7m) orientated ENE-WSW. The uprights from a gently curving arc and are set at angles of 55-70°. Individual posts were irregularly paired 0.12m-0.3m apart with an interval of 0.15-0.4m between the pairs. Some of the posts (L 0.234-0.616m; diam. 0.012-0.02m) are trimmed to wedge and pencil points with the remainder broken and a hazel heel formed the point of one post.   Description

  A single stake (diam. 0.035m) at an angle of 50° in a drain face, 0.55m below the field surface. It was cut to a chisel point and the wood is in moderate condition. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1993. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.   Description

  A hazel stake (L 0.25m; diam. 0.03m) at an angle of 55°. The tip was finished to a wedge point. It was cut to a wedge point with distinctive, short concave tool facets. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1993. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. • OF006-123 Road - class 3 togher
  Description

  A row (L 8.2 min.; Wth 2m; D 0.3m) of twelve posts (L 0.3-0.99m; diam. 0.065-0.1m) orientated ENE-WSW. The posts of alder, ash and birch occur singly at uneven intervals (0.25-1.7m) and at angles of 75-80°. The lower ends are trimmed to chisel and wedge points with a range of flat and concave tool facets some of which are very long (L 0.18m). A scatter of broken hazel brushwood (diam. 0.018-0.05m), twigs and an ash roundwood (diam. 0.08m) is located at the NW end of the site. The ends of some of the brushwood are worked to wedge points but most are simply broken or torn. Most of the brushwood lies obliquely to the line of posts singly or in pairs but one group of three parallel elements was noted. This site may be related to SMR OF006-081---- located 3m to the NW.   Description

  The site (Wth 0.37m; D 0.04m) is orientated NE-SW and composed of an irregular deposit of hazel brushwood (diam. 0.022-0.032m). Most of the wood is broken and embedded at angles of 20-25° with a single recorded peg. A range of flat and concave tool facets was recorded on the worked ends.
