Description
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. 30m N-S, 25.5m E-W) enclosed by two banks with intervening fosse. Inner bank (Wth 5.6m, H 1.56m internally, 2.1m externally), fosse (Wth 3.4m, D 1m) and outer bank of large stones and earth (Wth 2m, H 1.4m internally, 0.5m externally). Ancient entrance gap (Wth 1.5m) in inner bank and causeway (Wth 5.3m) across fosse at SW. Possible souterrain (LH004-025002-) in interior. Site now levelled. (CUCAP, AYM 46)

Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. 31.5m E-W, 26m N-S) enclosed by earth and stone bank (Wth 5m, H 0.7m internally, 1.6m externally) with external fosse (Wth 2.3m, D 0.5m) surviving at SE only. Two large stones formed a facing to the inner bank at ESE. Ancient entrance gap (Wth 2m) with causeway at WSW. Site now levelled. (CUCAP, AYM 46)

Description
The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 This wedge-shaped chamber is incorporated in a field boundary. The N, S and E sides each consist of a split boulder. Two imbricated stones represent an entrance opening to the SW. The chamber is covered by a single roof stone. Although the remains appear to be those of a small passage-tomb with an angled entrance, they are best left unclassified pending further investigation.

Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 D-shaped area (int. dims. 28.5m NNE-SSW, 26m WNW-ESE) enclosed by much-degraded earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5m, H 0.7m internally, 1.4m externally) with straight side at SE. Description
Excavated as part of the Dundalk Western by-pass project (Excavation Licence No. 03E1397). At the base of a river terrace at the interface with a flood-plain. Remains consisted of a thin layer of burnt stones and charcoal, a trough (L 2.5m; Wth 1.5m; D 0.5m) with no evidence for lining, a pond feature (L 5.6m; Wth 2.2m; D 0.4m) and a platform (L 1m; Wth 1m; D 0.1m) of semi-charred and waterlogged timbers. Excavations as part of the Dundalk Western by-pass project (Excavation Licence No. 03E1574) uncovered four shallow pits forming a curvilinear arc running NE-SW, with one possible pit, internal to the arc. 153 sherds of prehistoric pottery were recovered from the pits. Eight circular and sub-circular pits containing small quantities of cremated bone and charcoal were uncovered within an area 12m by 7m.
