  Description

  In pasture, on a gentle W-facing slope. A circular area (c. 36m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.4m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.9m) which has internal stone-facing along the SE arc. A possible external fosse (Wth 3.3m; D 0.65m) is evident NE-SE. A drystone wall (T 1m; int. H 1.05m; ext. H 0.4m), which incorporates large boulders, skirts the fosse externally NE-SE. The bank is denuded in places. Some rocks and boulders from field clearance have been dumped along the bank W-NE, externally. The level interior is covered with trees and undergrowth. • KE058-039 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a low hill in an undulating landscape. A circular area (c. 42m E-W) defined by a low earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.8m) WSW-ESE and by a scarp ESE-WSW. The bank and scarp are stone-faced externally W-NE and intermittently along the E, S and SW arcs. The drystone facing comprises rounded stones and is built in a similar fashion to a nearby field boundary. There are three cattle gaps in the bank at S, SW, and WNW, respectively. Trees grow in places along the bank. The interior is relatively level. There is a possible entrance (Wth 3m) at ENE. This is probably the 'remarkably large' rath 'on an eminence' in the centre of Dromadeesirt which was mentioned in the 1840s (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 16). There is a mound (KE058-144----) c. 100m to the E and a second rath (KE058-038----) c. 200m to the W. • KE058-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, on a SW-facing slope, c. 20m to the E of the Killarney-Castleisland road. A slightly raised circular area (diam. c. 30m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 7.15m; int. H 1.7m; ext. H 2.2m). An external fosse (Wth 1.4m; D 1.1m) is evident N-E and is infilled E-N. The interior is level. The NW quadrant and the area inside the S arc of the bank are heavily overgrown with brambles. There is a possible entrance (Wth 2.1m) at SW. The corner of a house slightly impinges on the fosse at NE. Garden sheds, built over the fosse at SE, abut the bank externally along the SE arc. Field boundaries, which cross the fosse, radiate from the bank at SW and NW. On the 1894 OS 6-inch map a second bank is indicated along the W arc, between these two radiating field boundaries. This is probably the rath in the E end of Dromadeesirt which was mentioned in the 1840s (OSNB, Kilcummin, no. 3, 17). • KE058-144 Barrow - mound barrow
  Description

  In pasture, on a gentle E-facing slope. A grass-covered, oval mound (7.65m NW-SE; 5.2m NE-SW; H 0.75m) of earth, gravel and stones. The top of the mound is relatively flat with a slight slope down to the SE. The slope at NW is longer and more gentle than elsewhere. Numerous stones are visible in the SE half. • KE058-153 Bridge
  Description

  A road bridge (Wth c. 5.3m; long axis N-S), built of random rubble sandstone, spanning the Gweestin River. Two semicircular arches (span 4.4m) with roughly shaped voussoirs. There is a low pointed cutwater on the upstream side of the pier (Wth 1.1m) and a low projecting plinth on the downstream side. Corbels project from both faces of the bridge and also occur on the sides of the abutments. The parapets have concrete coping. Iron braces have been inserted through the body of the bridge.
