  Description

  In pastureland. This fairly well-preserved moated site (24m NW-SE; 21.5m NE-SW) is defined by two earthen banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 4.8-5.2m; int. H 0.35-0.45m; ext. H 1.5m) is clearly visible along the SW and NW sides but the N end of the latter side has been quarried out; most of the NE side has been levelled and no trace of the SW side survives as another large quarry has been dug in this area. The fosse (Wth 0.7-1.1m; D 0.55-0.7m) is also best preserved along the SW and NW sides and the N end of the NE side. It has been quarried out on the SE side. The outer bank (Wth 4.15-5.05m; int. H 0.55-0.7m; ext. H 0.25m) survives along the NW side and the N end of the NE side; elsewhere it has been levelled or quarried out. A large area of the S sector of the interior has also been quarried out.   Description

  In level grassland. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 42.8m) defined by a bank of earth and stone, no visible surface trace of which survives from S to SE. Gaps at N and SW appear to be modern. According to Lynch Athy (1913-14, 136), a 'skeleton said to be 7 feet [2.1m] long' was found in the rath by a man quarrying for stones.   Description

  On a gentle rise in grassland. Circular rath (diam. c. 47m), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse. The bank is visible all round except from NNE to ENE and from WSW to W. The fosse survives from ENE through S to N. The townland boundary cuts through the monument at E and W. A causewayed entrance gap (Wth 7m) at SE has been modified. • GA083-078 Megalithic structure
  Description

  On open level rough grazing land, part of the Defence Forces' property at the Oranmore Firing Range. Cultivation ridges are visible in the surrounding fields. A ringbarrow (GA083-077----) lies 630m to the NW.A large roughly rectangular earthfast limestone orthostat (L 1.95m N-S; Wth 0.5m; H 1.3m), with a slightly rounded upper surface, is flanked immediately to the E and W by two displaced and now recumbent trapezoidal limestone slabs. The E slab measures 1.85m in length along its W side and has a maximum length of 1.2m along its S side and is 0.55m in thickness. Its S edge is very smooth, as if it once might have stood erect with its current S edge as the base. The W slab measures 1.8m along its N side and 1.06m along the E side and is 0.6m in thickness. Some small stones, cleared from the surrounding field, have been piled around the slabs. At first sight it appears that a single boulder was split, leaving a central orthostat with a displaced slab on either side, however, the faces of the two recumbent slabs don't match the faces of the orthostat, which has a pronounced offset of c. 0.15cms near the base on its W face (visible in profile in photo GA083-078----_02.jpg). Possibly a megalithic structure. • GA095-033 Enclosure
  Description

  On a low hillock in marshland, c. 10m to the S of a stream. This poorly preserved circular enclosure (diam. 8m) is defined by a bank of earth and stone which encloses a sunken interior. A pathway cuts across the monument from NW to SE and quarrying has encroached upon it at W. The arc of a low bank (L 6m), possibly associated, lies 9m to the N.   Description

  On the S bank of a small stream in low-lying pastureland and c. 20m to the W of a dual carriageway. This fulacht fia is defined by a low kidney-shaped grass-covered mound (7.5m E-W; 4m N-S; H 0.5m) with a water-logged central area opening on to the stream to the N. When initially inspected in August 1982, this possible moated site (33m NNW-SSE; 21m NNE-SSW), in fair condition, was defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. A drain cut through it at NE. Field banks running off the outer bank at SW may have been associated. On re-inspection in 2007 no visible surface trace survived.
