- GA095-051 Church
Description
On a W-facing slope in grassland, overlooking Mweeloon Bay. This medieval rectangular church (9.8m E-W; 7.6m N-S) is very poorly preserved. Only the ivy-covered W gable and the N side-wall survive, both stand to their original height. A small square window visible high up in the W gable, suggests the former presence of a loft. According to the OS Letters, this church probably occupied the site of an earlier one (O’Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 300-1). Holt (1912, 244) agreed with this noting a number of large blocks scattered about the associated graveyard (GA095-051001-) and also 'traces of ancient foundations near the present W. gable.' There is a 17th-century memorial stone (GA095-051002-) on the ground near the N wall. (McCaffrey 1952, 81, 132, no. 19) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 20 February 2020
- GA095-051001 Graveyard
Description
This irregularly shaped graveyard (c. 60m NE-SE; c. 58m NW-SE), which is still in use, is associated with a medieval church (GA095-051----) that occupies its NW corner. It is enclosed by a stone wall and access is gained at SE. Most of the headstones are modern but the earliest noted dated to 1681. One unusual grave-marker consists of a slab with a rounded head bearing a Maltese cross. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 20 February 2020
- GA095-051002 Memorial stone
Description
Holt (244) recorded a 'small tablet' on the ground close to the N wall of the medieval church (GA095-051----). A packing of stones around it suggested it had been intentionally fixed in that place. The slab bore the following inscription: IH S PRAYERFORT HESOULOFVN YKENNYWH ODEYEDTHE14 OFFEB 1687 Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 20 February 2020

- GA095-080 Ringfort - rath
Description
In undulating pastureland. This circular rath (int. diam. c. 30.5m), in fair condition, is defined by three banks and two intervening fosses. The inner bank and inner fosse are visible all round. The middle bank and outer fosse survive from E through S to NNW. A field wall cuts through them at NNW and E and no visible surface trace of them survives to its NE. The outer bank is visible only at WSW. Holt (1912, 224-5) noted that when an attempt was made to plant the interior, flagstones were encountered which he presumed were the roof of a souterrain. The SW half of the rath was overgrown with brambles and bushes. (McCaffrey 1952, 146-7, no. 16) This monument is subject to a preservation order made under the National Monuments Acts 1930 to 2014 (PO no. 3/1985). - GA095-146 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a S-facing slope in mixed farmland, overlooking an inlet of Mweeloon Bay to the SW. Poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 28m) defined by a low grassy bank (base Wth 5.2m) and a shallow external fosse (Wth 3.2m); the latter is not visible at W. (Holt 1912, 225; McCaffrey 1952, 147, no. 17) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 26 April 2018
- GA095-147 Hilltop enclosure
Description
On a ridge in pastureland. Described by Holt (1912, 225) as a 'large rath', which was located on the 'N.W. shoulder of a considerable hill'. It consists of a poorly preserved hilltop enclosure (69.8m E-W; 45m N-S) defined by a bank and external fosse with slight traces of an outer bank from SE to S. A possible souterrain (GA095-147001-) is associated. (McCaffrey 1952, 147. no. 18a) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 25 July 2017
- GA095-147001 Souterrain
Description
Within the interior of a hilltop enclosure (GA095-147----). Holt (1912, 225) noted that it was said that there were traces of a souterrain within the enclosure. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 25 July 2017
- GA095-148 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle S-facing slope in pastureland overlooking Galway Bay. This poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 34m) is defined by a bank, which is obscured by trees and bushes from W through N to S. A gap at NW is modern. Field walls surround the monument from S through W to NW and at N. When inspected in November 1982 the interior was clear, level and featureless. However, aerial imagery (https://binged.it/2Kh8uza, accessed 26 April 2018) indicates that a number of buildings have been constructed in the W half of the interior. (Holt 1912, 225; McCaffrey 1952, 147, no. 18) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 26 April 2018
