- RO035-038 Cist
Description
On a gently undulating SE-facing landscape. Cremated bone representing an adult male was discovered with a Bowl Food Vessel within a trapezoidal cist (dims 0.58m N-S; 0.43m E-W; H 0.5m) in April 1978. The cist had had single stones on the side-walls, which leaned to the E. It had a single roofstone (dims 0.63m x 0.63m; T 0.15m) and the floor was paved with four stones. - RO035-039 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a SE-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 48.2m ENE-WSW; 44.2m NNW-SSE) defined by an earthen bank and hedge (Wth 2.4-5.4m; int. H 0.45-0.8m; ext. H 0.65-1.5m) W-N-E and a fosse (Wth of top 7.7m; Wth of base 3.2-4.7m; D 1m) W-WNW and N-ENE. The monument is bisected by an ENE-WSW road, and S of this feature it is defined by a scarp (H 0.9m). There is no identifiable original entrance (max. ext. diam. 65m E-W). Rath (RO035-040----) is c. 150m to the ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
- RO035-040 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle S-facing slope. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 71.4m E-W; 63m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.9-6.3m; int. H 0.6-1.7m; ext. H 1.4-2m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.1m) SE-SW where the monument is truncated by an ENE-WSW road. An overgrown rounded fosse (at W: Wth of top 6.7m; Wth of base 3.4m; D 1.3m) survives SW-NNW but originally surrounded the entire monument and is visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP: BDV 26) from c. 1973. There is an entrance (Wth 2.4m) at NNW. Rath (RO035-039----) is c. 150m to the WSW. Archaeological monitoring (10N0023) of two small trenches in the fosse and outside it just W of the entrance produced no related material (McCarthy 2010). Description
At the E edge of a broad plateau. Subcircular grass-covered area (int. dims 24m N-S; 20.2m E-W) defined by the foundations of a grass-covered stone stone wall with inner and outer facing-stones (Wth 1.1m at N to 2m at W; H 0.2-0.5m). There is a rock-cut fosse (Wth of top 2.5m; D 0.3-0.4m) SW-N-NE, and the original entrance (Wth 2.2m) and unexcavated causeway (Wth 3.5m) are at NW.
