In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Rectangular area (40m NE-SW, 57m NW-SE) surrounded by earthen bank and slight traces of fosse. Fosse connected by leats at W and S corners to adjacent stream at W. Entrance not identified. At SE, interior is raised. Adjacent to this and bank at SW is circular depression, possibly silted up watering hole. Possible field system (CW008-002002-) and rectangular enclosure (CW008-054----) visible to S, consisting of areas defined by low banks.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 25 May 2011 'Templeoin'. Oval mound (20m NE-SW; 40m NW-SE; H c. 2.5m) of large granite boulders from field clearance mask site marked 'Abbey' on 1938 'OS 6-inch' map. Portion of door jamb, quoin, and faceted boulder (both granite) noted. Traces of walling with mortar visible in mound at W side. Holy water stoup found on site; now in St Patrick's College, Carlow. Traces of field system (CW008-002002-), enclosure (CW008-003001-) and moated site (CW003-011----), are visible in unimproved area to N. See also Killerrig (CW008-007----).
- CW008-004003 Ecclesiastical enclosure
Description
Aerial photographs (GB95.FV.34 & 35) show an extensive sequence of low-level earthworks, comprising banks and fosses, delineating a large rectangular enclosure. A diagonal fosse divides the rectangular enclosure into two segments. The mound of stones over the site of the former 'Abbey' (SMR CW008-004001-) is located within the north-western segment of the enclosure. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Present remains consist of SW angle and foundations of W wall standing in heap of rubble, indicating rectangular structure (7.5m NE-SW; 14.6m, NW-SE) of roughly coursed granite boulders. Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 41-45) show extensive cropmarks including D-shaped enclosure (est diam. c. 50m) with two fosses, within which tower house stands, and rectangular enclosures, probably moated site with attached field (CW008-054----) to SW. In possession of Preceptory of Killerrig (CW008-007----) at time of suppression. Bullaun stone (CW008-053----) found near the tower house. (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 337; MacNeill 1932, 152)

Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Single conical section basin (diam. 0.25m; D 0.22m) in very large, formerly earthfast granite boulder. Described by ITA Survey (1945) as having stood beside adjacent field boundary, now lying with rubble of Friarstown tower house (CW008-018002-).

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 41-45) show extensive cropmarks in area surrounding tower house (CW008-018002-). To SW of tower house cropmarks indicate rectangular area surrounded by two fosses and broad bank (max. dims. c. 60m NW-SE, 50m NE-SW). Attached to moated site is rectangular enclosure, also defined by two fosses with intervening bank (max. dims. c. 45m NW-SE, 30m NE-SW), suggesting well-defended annexe. No visible surface traces. Probably a moated site connected with preceptory (CW008-007----).
