• LF010-070 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a SW-facing slope in pasture. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded a raised circular area (diam. c. 46m) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone with a shallow external fosse.   Description

  On a NW-SE ridge in pasture. Depicted as an approximately circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. An report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded that, although the monument had been levelled, the outline of its perimeter could still be traced defining a circular area (diam. c. 40m).   Description

  On a SW-facing slope in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 34m) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 4-5.5m; H 0.8-1.5m) with a wide, deep, intervening fosse (Wth 6-6.2m; D 1-1.5m) and outer bank (Wth 6m; H 1-1.7m) with an outer fosse (Wth 4.8m; D 0.5m), which is identifiable only from ESE–SE. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded that the original entrance was at S. At the centre of the interior is a large limestone boulder. Compiled by: Patrick F. • LF010-073 Barrow - pond barrow
  Description

  On a low hillock in undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Depicted as ‘Mass Fort’ on the townland map of Ballybrien surveyed c. 1789 (NLI, MS 21 F. 40 (24)). A circular, concave depression (diam. 38.5m) is enclosed by a wide, flat-topped, tree-lined bank of earth and stone (base Wth 9.5–14m; top Wth 3m; int. H 2–3m; ext. H 1–1.5m) with traces of a shallow, external fosse. The outer face of the bank was faced with drystone masonry possibly in the 18th or 19th century. The monument was used as a penal mass site (O’Donovan 2003, 17). See also (LF011-008----), which has similar morphological features. Compiled by: Patrick F.   Description

  On a SE-facing slope in pasture with a stream to the E. A raised circular area (diam. 29m) enclosed from N-NE-ENE by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 4m; H 1m) and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 1.3-1.5m). A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded a shallow external fosse and a low outer bank, which was identifiable only at NE. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F.
