• RO021-024 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked only on the 1929 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the bottom of a W-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 41m E-W; 40m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3-3.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.5-0.8m) E-SW, and a complete fosse (Wth of top 5.7-7.5m; Wth of base 2.2m at N to 4.5m at E; D 0.1m at N to 0.4m at W). There is an entrance (Wth 6.8m) and an eroded causeway at SE. • RO021-025001 Field system
  Description

  On a gentle SW-facing slope. An area of c. 1km square S of rath (RO021-098----) has interupted sections of some long field banks (L c. 800m) running NW-SE and placed c. 100m apart. Some smaller rectangular fields (dims c. 100m x c. 50m) are traceable. Although the fields are not recorded on any map and they are on a different alignment to current fields, which are predominantly N-S or NE-SW, these fields are likely to be early modern in date. • RO021-026 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a W-facing slope. Subcircular grass-covered mound (dims of top 34.8m E-W; 31.1m N-S; dims of base 36m E-W; 37.4m N-S; H 1.8m at E to 3.2m at W) which is largely natural, surrounded by a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of base 4.5-7m; D 0.2m at N to 0.8m at S) SE-W-E, and an outer bank (at S: Wth 4m; ext. H 0.3m) SE-W. There is no identifiable original entrance, but the edge of the mound is cut back (L 15.6m) at SE (max. ext. dims 51m N-S; 50m E-W). • RO021-027 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the top of the NW-facing slope of a hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 33.3m ENE-WSW; 32.6 NNW-SSE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.3-4.5m; int. H 0.2-0.7m; ext. H 0.9-1.3m), and outer fosse (Wth of top 4.4-5.5m; Wth of base 2-2.5m; D 0.2-0.3m) NNW-E-SW which is visible as a band of rushes (Wth 2.5-3m) elsewhere. • RO021-029 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the top of the W-facing slope of a hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 52m N-S; 51m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5-4m; int. H 0.4-0.5m; ext. H 1m) and slight traces of a fosse (Wth of base 2.2-3.6m; D 0.1m) NW-NNE and ENE-SSE with a slight scarp (H 0.3m) elsewhere, except SSE-SSW where the perimeter merges into the hillslope. There is no identifiable original entrance, and a relict NNE-SSW field bank, now removed, bisected the monument. Archaeological testing (97E0315) c. 100m to the E, and monitoring in the vicinity, failed to produce any evidence of ancient activity (Dunne 1998). See the attached aerial view taken from the ENE.   Description

  On a slight rise at the W end of a low E-W ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 33.2m NNE-SSW; 31.8m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.3-3.4m; int. H 0.3-0.8m; ext. H 0.8-1.3m) which is incorporated into a defunct field bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.5m) SE-WSW, and a fosse (Wth of base 2-3m; D 0.3m) WSW-NNW.   Description

  At the W edge of a plateau. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 49m NW-SE; 44m NE-SW) defined by a fosse (Wth of top 9-11m; int. D 0.2-0.6m; ext. D 0.2-0.4m) NE-E-SW, and by a natural slope elsewhere. There are two grass-covered cairns (RO021-087002-; RO021-087003-) (diam. 8.3m; H 0.4m: diam. 6.8m; H 0.4m) in the interior which could be clearance cairns, but the enclosure has no identifiable original entrance. • RO021-098 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle W-facing slope. Oval grass-covered area (dims. 31m NW-SE; 24m NE-SW) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth 2-3m; int. H 0.2-0.7m; ext. H 1m) SE-SW which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.5-0.9m) elsewhere, and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 10-14m; Wth of base 6.5-8m; D 0.1-0.6m) SE-SW and at NNE (Wth of base 5m; D 0.1m). An area of c. 2 acres (c. 1 ha) contains an old stream bed (Wth c. 5m; D 0.5m on W) with a bank (Wth 5m; H 0.5m on E; H 1m on W) on its E side running NW-SE, and a number of small rectangular fields (dims c. 15-30m x 20m) defined by earthen banks (Wth c. 3m; H up to 0.6m) lie to the E of it.
