• RO021-038 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle S-facing slope. Circular grass-covered platform (diam. 35.7m E-W; 34.7m N-S; H 2-2.2m) with slight traces of a bank (Wth c. 3m; int. H 0.3m) at N, defined by a fosse (Wth of top 7.7m at S to 12.3m at N; Wth of base 3-5m; D 1.1-1.5m), with an outer bank (Wth 2-4m; H 0.2-0.3m) WSW-N-SE. The fosse is damaged by a stone structure (dims c. 10m E-W; c. 7m N-S) and pond at S (max. ext. dim. 56.4m E-W). There is a modernised entrance (Wth 3.4m) at NE. Relict field banks extend to the N (L 25m) and E (L 18m) until they encounter an old grass-covered stream bed (Wth 6m; D 0.3m) which approaches from the W, circumscirbes the site N-E and runs off to the E.   Description

  On a gentle E-facing slope. Circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 47.6m E-W; 45m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4-6m; int. H 0.8-1m generally to 1.5m at W; ext. H 1.6-1.7m) and flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 8.3-10m; Wth of base 4.5-5m; D 0.4-0.7m), with an outer bank (Wth 5m; H 0.2m) SE-WSW (max. ext. dim. 68m N-S). The entrance (Wth 3.4m) is at ESE, and the fosse has been extended into a pond WSW-NNW, while a farm road approaches the perimeter at NW. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

  Description

  On a gentle E-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 31.6m N-S; 22m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.9m) and an outer fosse (Wth of base 3m; D 0.1m) N-E-S. The site is truncated by a NNE-SSW field bank and no visible feature survives W of this. The entrance (Wth 2.2m) is at SSE, and the perimeter at S is cut by a pond.   Description

  On a broad plateau. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 30.4m N-S; 28m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2-4m; int. H 0.3-0.5m; ext. H 1-1.5m) which is incorporated into a field bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.5m) SE-WSW. There is a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of base 2.5-3m; D 0.3-0.7m) N-SE, which has been re-dug as a drain SE-WSW. The entrance (Wth 1.6m) is at NNW.   Description

  On a broad plateau. An area of c. 5 ha (c. 12 acres) contains relict field banks (Wth c. 2-3m; H c. 0.5m), one of which is incorporated into the bank of rath (RO021-054----) at NE. They create some large fields to the NE whose outer limits cannot be determined, and three small plots (dims c. 30-40m x c. 15-20m) running W from the rath.
