  Description

  Identified by J. O'Donovan c. 1837 as the ford of Ath Slisean on the NE-SW Owenur River where Manus O'Conor defeated his brother Cathal in 1288 (AFM vol. 3, 447), and where William Burke fought Roderic O'Conor in 1309 (AFM vol. 3, 493). The river has been drained and straightened and the stream is now crossed by a four-arched bridge. Moated site (RO017-151----) is c. 100m W of the bridge.   Description

  On a S-facing slope. Circular overgrown area (diam. 32.5m NW-SE; 30.4m NE-SW) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (at NW: Wth 4.6m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.2m) and a flat-bottomed fosse (at NW: Wth of base 3.3m; D 0.9m) NW-NE which is reduced to an overgrown scarp (at SE: H 0.3m) elsewhere.   Description

  On a low knoll. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 33m N-S; 32.2m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 5-5.8m; ext. H 1.3m generally to 3m at W) which has been truncated by a drystone wall (Wth 0.6m; H 0.7-1m) on its inner face. There is a slight outer fosse (Wth of base 2.7m; D 0.1m) NW-NE which is replaced by a farm track SSW-NW, and the entrance (Wth 2m) is at ESE.   Description

  Marked as a rectangular field (dims. c. 30m N-S; c. 30m E-W) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and as a sub-oval hachured feature (dims. c. 100m NW-SE; c.50m NE-SW) on the 1914 ed. Situated at the W end of a small E-W drumlin ridge, just off the crest of the S-facing slope. Subrectangular grass-covered area (dim. 57.5m NW-SE) defined by a fragment of an earthen bank (Wth 5.5m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.9m) at NW and a low scarp (H 0.2m) SE-S, although the perimeter may be incorporated into an overgrown field bank S-NW. Grass-covered stone spreads (Wth 0.8m; H 0.1m) form the N (L 14m) and E (L 12) sides of a corral or a building (RO023-004002-) towards the perimeter at E.   Situated at the W end of a small E-W drumlin ridge, just off the crest of the S-facing slope. Grass-covered stone spreads (Wth 0.8m; H 0.1m) form the N (L 14m) and E (L 12) sides of a corral or a building towards the perimeter of enclosure (RO023-004001-) at E.
