  Description

  Marked as an oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 45m N-S; c 35m E-W) only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated towards the bottom of an E-facing slope of Mullaghcreigha Hill. • RO023-132 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked as a subcircular embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 60m E-W; c. 55m N-S) on the 1837 ed. and as a fragment of a bank (C c. 40m) SW-N on the 1914 ed. of the map. Situated towards the bottom of a SE-facing slope of Mullaghcreigha Hill, it is not visible at ground level in pasture. However, it is visible as a feature on a Lidar image (Davis 2015, 185, No. 70:4) as a circular area (diam. c. 35m), possibly with a bank on the perimeter, surrounded by what might be a fosse and outer bank (ext. diam. c. 65m) but the outermost feature is truncated by a N-S field bank at E and an E-W field bank at S.   Description

  On a low-lying level landscape. Subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 34.4m N-S; 29.7m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 2-3.8m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.7-0.8m) N-S-NW, which is reduced to a slight scarp elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. Farm buildings are outside the perimeter SW-NW. • RO023-135 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle S-facing slope in a low-lying landscape. D-shaped grass and scrub-covered area (dims 51m E-W; 39.6m N-S) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 5-6m; int. H 0.4-0.5m; ext. H 1.5-1.7m) and outer fosse (Wth of top 5.5m; Wth of base 1.9-3.2m; D 0.6-1.2m) E-S-W and by a scarp (H 1.6m) at N where the monument was truncated by an E-W field bank and townland boundary with Carrownagullagh which is c. 3m distant from the scarp. There is no identifiable original entrance. The bank is incorporated into a field bank and the fosse re-cut as a drain E-SE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
