• RO048-124 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the top of a gentle S-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 33m NW-SE; 32.5m NE-SW) defined by a collapsed stone spread (Wth 1-2m; int. H 0.5m) ENE-S-WSW and by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2.5-3m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.4m) elsewhere. There is no identifiable fosse or original entrance, but the perimeter is overlain by a field wall and townland boundary with Cloonacaltry WSW-WNW. The cashel (RO048-123----) is c. 160m to the N and cashel (RO048-125----) is c. 130m to the ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

• RO048-125 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a curved field boundary (C c. 35m S-N), and situated towards the top of a S-facing slope. A section (L 5.5m) of the outer facing stones of a cashel wall at NW is visible under the E drystone wall of a N-S laneway which circumscribes a circular grass-covered area S-N (diam. c. 30m), but no other evidence of the monument is visible. Rath (RO048-124----) is c. 130m to the WSW, earthwork (RO048-123----) is c. 180m to the NW, and enclosure (RO048-126----) is c. 130m to the NE.   Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 40-45m), and situated towards the top of a S-facing slope.   Description

  Visible as a D-shaped feature (ext. dims. c. 40m E-W; c. 25m N-S) truncated by an E-W field wall at S on aerial photograph (CUCAP, K17 W5), and situated towards the top of a S-facing slope.   Description

  Marked as a circular enclosure on the 1837 (diam. c. 30m) and 1915 (ext. diam. c. 50m) eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the shoulder of a gentle SW-facing slope in an area with field walls.
