• RO006-018 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the crest of the S-facing slope of a drumlin. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 63m E-W; 62m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.7-1.1m), with a fosse (Wth of top 4.2m; int. D 1m; ext. D 0.5m) SW-NW. There is no visible entrance, but the interior is overlain by a NNW-SSE field bank and ditch W of the centre, which is one boundary of a road marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map.   Description

  On a gentle SW-facing slope c. 170m from the N bank of the NW-SE River Boyle. Circular grass-covered but poached area (int. diam. 28.5m N-S; 27m E-W) defined by an overgrown stone spread (Wth 2.5m; H 0.1-0.3m) with intermittently visible internal and external facing stones (original Wth 1.25m).   Description

  Marked as a small embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m) on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and as a small mound (diam. c. 15m) on the 1915 edition. Situated on a low rise.   Towards the top of the S-facing slope of a drumlin. There is no visible surface evidence of Killeenan church apart from a sandstone jamb (RO006-021004-) (H 0.2m) of a moulded doorway of medieval date set into the masonry wall of the graveyard (RO006-021002-) (dims 60m N-S; 36-40m E-W). A curving scarp (H 0.5-1m) E-S outside the E wall of the graveyard may be part of an ecclesiastical enclosure (RO006-021003-) (diam. c. 70m) surrounding the site.   Description

  On a gentle N-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 8.75m) defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth 1.2m generally to 3.5m at S; int. H 0.2m generally to 0.75m at S; ext. H 0.1m at W to 0.8m at S). The bank is revetted externally by large upright stones or a drystone-built wall and there is an entrance (Wth 1.3m) defined by two large stones at NW.
