  Description

  At the crest of the SE-facing slope of a rise. Circular grass-covered area with some bushes (diam. 42m E-W; 40m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (at E: Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1.25m; at W: Wth 6.5m; int. H 0.75m; ext. H 1.75m), with a fosse (Wth of top 3.4-3.7m; D 0.05-0.1m) SSW-N-E which has been quarried SW-W. There is no visible entrance.   Description

  Marked faintly as a rectangular burial ground (RO006-059002-) (dims c. 40m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the gentle NE-facing slope of a rise. Large oval overgrown area (dims 103m NW-SE; 47m NE-SW), which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest, defined by an external scarp (H 0.5-1m) N-E and an internal scarp (H 0.5-1m) S-W. It is bisected by a N-S field bank (Wth 5m; H 0.2-0.3m). There is no visible surface evidence of a church or of burial, but there is a local tradition that it was a nunnery (RO006-059003-) (Gannon 1972). • RO006-059004 Ecclesiastical enclosure
  Description

  The burial ground (RO006-059002-) is situated on the gentle NE-facing slope of a rise and within a large oval overgrown enclosure (dims 103m NW-SE; 47m NE-SW), which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest. The enclosure is defined by an external scarp (H 0.5-1m) N-E and an internal scarp (H 0.5-1m) S-W. It is bisected by a N-S field bank (Wth 5m; H 0.2-0.3m). • RO006-060001 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  On a shelf of rock outcrop in a low-lying position. Circular grass and scrub-covered area (int. diam. 30.5m N-S; 29.5m E-W) defined by a stone spead (at N: Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.05m; ext. H 1.55m; at E: Wth 7m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.75m) with some facing stones visible (at E: original Wth 3m), but the perimeter is missing WSW-WNW. There is an entrance (Wth 1.1m) at SE. • RO006-060002 Field system
  Description

  In a dry, flat low-lying landscape within an area of rock-outcrop. Irregularly-shaped grass-covered fields defined by collapsed drystone walls (Wth 2-3m; H 0.1-0.4m) cover an area of c. 2 ha. Cashel (RO006-060001-) is at the S edge of this area with some field walls attaching to the perimeter at W, NW and E, but much of the area has been quarried.   Description

  On flat dry ground c. 40m from the S shore of the triangular Laundry Lough (dims c. 500m E-W; c. 250m N-S). Circular overgrown area (diam. 25-26m) which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest defined by a scarp (H 0.2-0.8m). There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance.   On the N-facing slope of a small drumlin. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 7.6m) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth 2m at W to 3.4m at N; int. H 0.1m at W to 0.5m at E; ext. • RO006-215 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  Situated in level pasture at the bottom of a N-facing slope, overlooking Oakport Lough to the E. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is an oval area (dims 30m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by a low bank (at N: Wth 7.1m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.25m) with slight traces of an internal fosse (at N: Wth of top 5.2m; Wth of base 1.8m; D 0.2m) that is best preserved SSE-W-NE. The perimeter at E is disturbed by a small oval, grass-covered quarry (dims c. 4m N-S; c. 3.2m E-W; D 0.3m) and associated up-cast. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 11 May, 2015
