Description

Description
In the W sector of a rath (RO009-050001-). Visible in 1971 as a large opening between two very thick capstones which revealed a hollow (D c. 2m) used as a domestic rubbish dump. Description
Marked similarly on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as 'Dane's Well', and situated on a flat low-lying landscape. This is a rectangular well (dims 0.8m x 0.8m; D 1.5m) enclosed in concrete and now dry within a rectangular enclosure (dims 10.5m NW-SE; 7.7m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank. Description
On a flat landscape with rock outcrop. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 105m N-S; 100m E-W) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth 5.7-7.2m; int. H 0.2-0.4m; ext. H 0.6-1m), which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.5m) N of an E-W field bank overlying the site towards the perimeter at N. There is no visible entrance or facing stones. Description
On a flat landscape with rock outcrop, and at the centre of the enclosure (RO015-002001-). Rectangular grass-covered area (int. dims 24m WNW-ESE; 22.5m NNE-SSW) defined by grass-covered stone spreads (Wth 1.45-3.6m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.25-1.15m) on three sides and by a scarp (H 0.8m) at S. There is no visible entrance or facing stones, but the interior has lines of NNE-SSW grave-markers. Description
On a slight E-W ridge in a low-lying landscape. Subcircular grass-covered platform (dims 34.5m N-S; 29.5m E-W; H 1.55-2m) defined by slight traces of a bank (int. H 0.25m) NW-N but generally by a fosse (Wth of top 6.7-9.8m; Wth of base 5.8-6.8m; ext. D 0.25-0.5m) and an outer bank (at W: Wth 2.8m; ext. H 0.5m; at N: Wth 5.9m; ext. H 1.3m), which is removed NE-ENE. There is an outer berm (Wth 9.7m at S) SE-SW defined by a scarp (H 0.8m at S). There is an entrance (Wth 5.5m) in the outer bank at ESE (max. ext. dims c. 65m N-S; c. 51m E-W). Test excavations (E000490) in 1989 revealed an area of paving inside the entrance (Killeen 1990, 45).
