• TN027-078 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a break in a SW-facing slope of a steep hill, in pasture. A roughly circular enclosure (diam. 30m E-W), defined by a bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.77m; ext. H 1.04m) and external fosse (Wth 3.8m; D 0.72m). The site is transected in the NW quadrant by a NE-SW field bank. The NW sector is quite denuded where the bank and fosse have been much reduced. A shallow quarry site, c. 20m diam., now grassed over, lies 6m NE of the NE quadrant. The interior slopes to SW. There is a possible causewayed entrance at SW though this is heavily overgrown with brambles. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. • TN027-079 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight break in an otherwise steep SW-facing slope, in pasture. A river flows roughly NW-SE along the valley floor at the base of the slope. The site (diam. 34m E-W) is enclosed by a bank largely reduced to a scarp (H 1.15m) and a deep U-shaped fosse (Wth 6.3m) with outer bank (Wth 5.1m; int. H 1.43m; ext. H 2.04m). The interior is densely overgrown with scrub, brambles and gorse, particularly in the NE half. The outer bank has been dug into at N and heaps of spoil have been dumped there. There is a possible causewayed entrance in the SE quadrant with a reduction in the outer bank. Heavy growth impairs visibility and examination of possible entrance feature. • TN027-080 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a SW-facing slope, in pasture. A large circular area (diam. 52m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 3.7m; int. H 1.75m; ext. H 1.8m) and outer fosse (Wth 4.3m; D 1.17m) with a sharp, almost V-shaped profile. The fosse broadens out along the E sector where the bank is less pronounced; it is destroyed at N. Some dumping of earth and concrete into the fosse has occurred in the NE and SE quadrants. There are gaps in the bank (Wth 4.6m) at N and at SSW (Wth 2m). A road oriented NW-SE skirts the edge of the bank in the SW quadrant and a NE-SW trackway skirts the bank at NW. • All Saints Catholic Church, church/chapel, 1860–1865 · Regional interest
  Description

  Freestanding gable-fronted Catholic church, built 1862, with three-bay side elevations to nave, porch to gable-front and lean-to porch to north elevation. Pitched artificial slate roof. Rendered walls to gables ends, with render quoins to porch. Tie-bars to side walls. Roughcast rendered walls with sandstone quoins to side elevations. Date of erection and builder inscribed in sandstone sill in east elevation. Round-headed openings with stained-glass windows having cut sandstone surrounds. Timber battened double-leaf door set in round-headed opening with cross in over-door. Rendered bell stand to grounds.
