• WM015-022 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on a slight natural rise in gently undulating grassland, Ringfort (WM015-021---) 200m to NE. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as an oval-shaped enclosure delimited by 2 concentric lines, annotated on map as ‘fort’. Depicted on 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular shaped enclosure intersected at W by a roadway/laneway running roughly N-S. Present remains consist of a large sub-circular shaped area (approx. diam. 35m NE-SW; 36m NW-SE) enclosed by a low, poorly preserved earthen bank that has been reduced to a scarp in places, and has several disturbance gaps. Traces of cultivation ridges are visible running N-S across the interior. Field fences intersect the perimeter of the monument at SW and NW.   Situated in grassland with ringfort (WM015-022----) 140m to NE and Kilfaughny Castle (WM022-007----) 350m to WSW. Outline of oval-shaped enclosure (approx. diam. 50m E-W; 37m N-S) defined by a scarp and external fosse with possible rectangular shaped annexe on NNE side visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph. • WM022-009 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated on generally level ground, in well-drained pasture, with good views to NW, N and NE. Monument described in 1971 and 1976 as an unusually large, roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 60m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and the remains of an external fosse. The wide inner bank (H 1.5m) is best preserved at S and elsewhere it is much lower (H 0.75m-1m), being reduced to a scarp from NNE-E. Traces of a shallow external fosse are visible in places. The bank and fosse have been completely levelled at SW. The original entrance is not recognisable. An earthen field fence runs immediately outside the bank at NW.   Description

  Situated on a gentle NNE-Facing slope, in pasture with good views to N, E and NW. Monument described in 1971 as a large roughly circular-shaped area (diam. 44m) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The bank is best preserved from SE-S-SW and is almost reduced to a scarp in places and is much disturbed by several small gaps. The exterior of the bank has been steepened and modified to form part of a modern field fence. The deep U-shaped external fosse is best preserved from SE-S-SW and is almost completely filled up from NE-E-SE. The original entrance is not visible. Architectural heritage

• Lacken Lodge, gates/railings/walls, 1840–1860 · Regional interest
  Description

  Entrance gates originally serving Lackan Lodge (now demolished), erected c.1850, comprising a pair of open work cast-iron gate posts, with cast-iron urn finials over, supporting a pair of decorative cast-iron gates with fleur-de-lis and trellis detailing, including a number of wrought-iron elements. Gateway flanked to the northeast and southwest by sections of rendered screen walling (on curved plan) having cut stone capping over and terminated by gate piers on square-plan. Located to the east of Lackan Lodge (demolished) and to the northeast of Glassan. Now forms the entrance to a modern bungalow to the west.

• Lackan Lodge, outbuilding, 1820–1850 · Regional interest
  Description

  Attached multi-bay two-storey outbuilding to the rear of Lackan Lodge (now demolished), built c.1835. Now in use as an agricultural outbuilding associated with a modern bungalow. Pitched natural slate roof with cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls. Square-headed window and door openings and a central segmental-headed carriage arch, all having raised cut stone block-and-start surrounds. Oculus opening to the east gable end. Cut stone sills and remains of cast-iron diamond pane windows to window openings. Wrought-iron gates to door openings. Located to the south of the site of Lackan House and to the northeast of Glassan. Main gates to the east (15402219).
