- Luggala Lodge, hunting/fishing lodge, 1955–1960 · Regional interest
Description
Detached eleven-bay one and one and a half-storey former hunting lodge, built in 1956, now in use as a house. The original house was built in c.1790-1800, destroyed by fire in 1956 and immediately rebuilt as an exact copy. It was originally designed, possibly by Francis Sandys, in gingerbread Gothic style for Peter La Touche. The house is finished in render with drip mouldings, miniature battlements with some pinnacles. The door is set within a segmental-arched opening. To either side there are bow windows. Window openings are flat-headed with two over two timber sash frames; those to the bows have Gothic drip mouldings while to others, mouldings are rectangular. To first floor there are a series of decorative trefoil windows. The house nestles within a small wood at the base of the Luggala Valley adjacent to the lake of the same name.
