• KE004-009 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 21m N-S, 20m E-W Lisnaparka/Lios na Páirce (ringfort of the field). Situated on gently sloping pastureland in front of Griffin's house, a good view is afforded in all directions. This site consists of a circular area enclosed by an earthen bank. The bank measures .8m externally and .5m above the interior; the width of the bank at the base measures 5m. To the NW a modern opening has been cut into the bank, and the NW sector of the interior of the bank has been disturbed and used for dumping and burning. • KE005-001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Internal diameter 25m N-S This univallate rath was cut in half by a fieldbank running in a N-S direction. The site has been much levelled and is best preserved on the W side, whereas on the E side the remains are barely distinguishable. The semi-circular earthen bank on the W side of the fieldbank rises to a height of .6m and is 3.7m wide at the base. A small mound, 2m x 2.4m internally, lies in the interior of the SW sector.   Description

  Internal diameter 25.4m N-S, 27m E-W This univallate rath is situated on a N sloping rise. The circular area is enclosed by a low, wide earthen bank to the N through NW to SW. Elsewhere it appears as a slight rise of .6m above the fosse. An external fosse is distinguishable for most of the site, except to the S to SW where it is not visible. It is c 1in wide and c .6m below the height of the surrounding land. The interior slopes N and has two rows of ridges running down its length.   Description

  Univallate rath KE005-002---- is situated on a N sloping rise. The circular area is enclosed by a low, wide earthen bank to the N through NW to SW. The interior slopes N and has two rows of ridges running down its length. In the S sector of the interior is a small mound (KE005-002001-) measuring 2.4m x 2.8m internally.   Description

  Lisheen/Lisín (little ringfort). Marked on both editions of the OS maps, this sub-circular enclosure is cut slightly NE-SE by a small stream. This site also shows up as a discoloration on the Geological Survey of Ireland aerial photographs (1974). However, no surface trace survives today. The above description is derived from C. • KE005-005 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  Marked on the 1841-42 and 1914-15 OS maps as 'Toberfell' (Tobar Feille - well of the treachery). Situation and Description: This is a small circular well of pure chalybeat water. According to Smith (1756, 184) Fell's Well was named after the man who discovered it. He 'made a trial of its virtues in scorbutic cases, like German spa at the fountain head'. According to the ITA Survey of 1943 this well was known locally as 'Tobarín Donn' and that the local tradition to then curative powers of this well was very strong at that time (SMR File). Rahavanaig School collected the following tradition about this well; 'There was another holy well in Tullamore. There was a battle on Knockanore long ago after the soldiers washed their wounds in the water of Tobar Fel and were immediately cured.   Detached four-bay single-storey house with dormer attic, built c. 1885. Pitched slate roof with artificial slate patching and rendered chimneystack. Limewashed rubble stone walls. Timber sliding sash and replacement windows. Timber boarded door. Farmyard to rear.
