  Description

  In level pasture. Circular area (35.6m N-S; 33.4m E-W) defined by a scarped edge (H 0.4m; Wth 3.3m). Field boundary runs along base of scarp E->W. Scarp has been eroded by cattle E->ESE. A septic tank has been inserted into base of scarp at NW. Interior level, dry and clear of overgrowth. Farm trackway skirts enclosure c. 15m to N. • LI036-125001 Church
  Description

  East-of-centre in graveyard (LI036-125002-). Roofless ruin of rectangular church (int.: 25.75m E-W; 7.9m N-S), built of roughly coursed stone. Side walls stand to full height but top of E gable fallen and W wall reduced to footings level. Entered through doorway near W end of S wall; door surround missing, though sill in position; doorway covered by segmental arch. Three windows survive: in centre of E wall; near E end of S wall; and E-of-centre in N wall; in 1840 there were two slit windows in W gable which then stood (OSL vol. 2, 10). East window has double, cusped ogee-headed light, with recessed spandrels and hood moulding, but mullion missing; embrasure widely splayed with round-arched head. South window has similar light but embrasure covered by segmental arch. North window has single ogee-headed light; splayed embrasure has lintelled head. Just E of window in S wall is aumbry/piscina- its base is now covered; surround in cut limestone with pointed arch and moulded stop chamfer. Break (Wth 2.7m) in N wall to W-of-centre. Interior covered with burial plots, some headstones recent but the earliest dated 1807. Remains of late-medieval parish church of Monagay (Westropp 1904-5, 403).   Description

  On gentle N-facing slope; on E side of road. Roughly rectangular graveyard (c. 80m E-W; c. 50m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank except for low stone wall, with gate, along road to W. Just E-of-centre ruin of late-medieval parish church of Monagay (LI036-125001-). Still in use and maintained; many 19th and 20th century headstones, the earliest noted dated 1807. • LI036-125003 Excavation - miscellaneous
  Description

  This is the record for the excavation by Kate Taylor (04E1232) of thirty test-trenches 'in the vicinity of a medieval church and graveyard at Glebe, Monagea. A number of ditches and gullies were discovered, some of which were fairly substantial. It is likely that the features represent part of a medieval field system and possibly the line of the old road to the church. A small assemblage of animal bone was recovered, along with an iron billhook and a fragment of slag, indicating both domestic and small-scale industrial activity.'
