Description
In pasture on the summit of a hill. Hachured on both the first (1840) and Cassini (1916) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Classified as an enclosure in the RMP (1996). This is a heavily overgrown subcircular bivallate rath (diam. c. 45m). Where accessible (at S, NW and N) the enclosing elements consist of a round-topped inner earthen bank (Wth 2.1m; ext. H 1.8-2.1m; int. H 0.4m), the remains of an outer bank (at S only – Wth 2m; H 0.1m) and an intervening fosse (Wth 3.1-3.8m; ext. D 0.1m). At NNW, a short length (c. 1m) of upright stones in the inner bank suggests a revetment. While no trace of an original entrance was visible in the dense overgrowth, the OS 25-inch plan (1897) records opposing gaps in the inner bank (est. Wth c. 4m) and outer bank (est. Wth c. 7.5m) at SE. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Eve Campbell Date of upload: 7-10-2025
- CL015-131 Standing stone
Description
On a prominent NE-SW ridge in pasture. A flat vertical limestone slab (H 1.46m; Wth 0.32-0.37; D 0.1-0.13m) aligned E-W and tapering gently towards the top. There are no visible markings and the two wide faces are quite flat. The angles are polished as it is used as a scratching post and is poached around the base. 6m to the S, beyond a fence, the ridge is cut away to make way for a building. A second standing stone lies c. 265m to the NE. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 22 September 2025
- CL015-151 Enclosure
Description
On a low rise on the N bank of the Inagh River (c. 55m to the S). A subrectangular enclosure (c. 36m SW-NE; c. 25m NW-SE) defined by a bank visible on OSi MapGenie orthophotography (2013-2018). Cultivation ridges are visible in the E half and in the field to the N. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 18 November 2025
- CL015-155 Standing stone
Description
On a flat shelf on the W side of a broad ridge with ground rising gently to E and NE. The ground falls away 250m to the Dealagh river to the W and there are beautiful open views to SW and W towards Liscannor Bay. An upright stone (H 1.1m) with an almost square cross-section (0.25m N-S; 0.2m E-W at base; 0.13m N-S; 0.13m E-W at top). The top slopes up very slightly from S to N. The E face undulates markedly as it rises and there are slight undulations on the lower W and lower N sides. The angles are quite polished by farm stock. The stone is heavily blotched with white lichen which covers the base on the S and W faces. The S side also has some yellow lichen. Another standing stone lies c. 265m to the SW.
