- GA102-001001 Ringfort - rath
Description
In undulating grassland. When initially visited by the Survey in November 1982, this poorly preserved subcircular rath (40m E-W; 33m N-S) was defined by a degraded bank. A field wall cut through the monument at W and E, and a gap at NW appeared to be modern. A T-shaped rise, encompassing some rock outcrop, was evident in the interior. When revisited in May 1992, the area to the N of the field wall had been totally levelled as a result of field clearance. To its S a grass-covered mound was visible; a lot of stone protruded from it. A trackway (GA102-001002-) may be associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 11 October 2016

- GA094-012 Megalithic tomb - portal tomb
Description
In a shallow valley at the head of Leckanaloy Creek, c. 100m from the seashore. Described by de Valera and Ó Nualláin (1972, 14) as a small chamber (L 2.5m, Wth c. 1.8m), aligned ESE-WNW, composed of two portal-stones at E, a backstone at W and N sidestone. The S portal leans markedly outwards and a large displaced roofstone lies across the chamber. The remains of a small earthen enclosure (3m by 2.5m) abut its N side. Fragments of cremated bone and sherds of coarse pottery were recovered from the chamber. - GA102-005 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In level grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular cashel (c. 90m NW-SE) defined by two drystone walls c. 20m apart at S. The inner wall survives from N to NE and from E to S, while the outer wall is visible from E through S to N. A farmhouse and associated outhouses have been constructed between the two walls and on the line of the inner wall at E. McCaffrey (1952, 173, no. 4a) noted the existence of a ‘souterrain [GA102-005001-] in the haggard of the farmhouse’; no visible surface trace of it survives. An enclosure (GA102-005002-) lies c. 7m to the SSW. (Holt 1912, 231) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 January 2017

- GA102-005002 Enclosure
Description
Circa 7m to the SSW of a cashel (GA102-005----). Known locally as 'St. Sorney's Bed', this circular area (int. diam. 5.7m) is defined by a much-collapsed double-faced wall (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.3m; Wth at E 2.2m; Wth at W 1m) composed of large limestone flagstones. There is a possible entrance gap at E. According to McCaffrey (1952, 173, no. 3a; 1956, 189), 'local people claim that a "small covered passage built of stones" resembling a small souterrain is present in the interior, now entirely covered by earth'. This feature was not visible as the interior was strewn with boulders and overgrown with bramble. Some 60m to the SE is St Sorney's Well (GA102-005002-). Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 4 January 2017
- GA102-006 Ritual site - holy well
Description
On a S-facing slope in grassland close to the head of Loughnahalla Bay. According to Holt (1912, 246-7), this holy well, associated with ‘St. Sornia’, had ‘virture on any Friday’ but was mainly patronised on Garland Sunday, the last Sunday in July. It consists of a subcircular drystone-lined well shaft (dims. 1.15-1.25m; D 0.4m), at the base of which is a naturally hollowed-out stone basin. The well occupies the W end of a small rectangular enclosure (4.3m E-W; 3.2m N-S), defined by a wall (Wth 0.5-1.3m; H 1.2m) constructed of angular limestone boulders, which Holt (ibid.) noted was built by a person ‘who recovered his sight after bathing his eyes in the well water.’ A number of mature ash trees now growing within the enclosed area have caused the partial collapse of the wall. There is an entrance gap (Wth 0.45m) at E, where four flagstones lead down to the well. Holt (ibid.) further noted that on visiting the well, ‘Devotees’ then proceeded to visit ‘St. Sornia’s cell’ (see GA102-005002-), which lies c. 60m to the NW. Description
On a low hillock in rough pastureland, c. 120m E of Loughnahalla Bay. Poorly preserved subcircular cashel (31m N-S; 29m E-W) defined by a collapsed drystone wall, no visible surface trace of which survives from SE to S. According to Holt (1912, 231), ‘gateway’ (Wth 2.1m) at E was approached by a stone causeway; no visible surface trace of this feature survives. Description
On a gentle N-facing slope in grassland. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 174, no. 13) as a circular ‘Earthen fort’ (diam. c. 45.7m) with traces of internal stone-facing. The monument has been levelled and all that is visible is a large revetted field-clearance cairn, the curving S side of which may follow the line of the enclosing element. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 5 January 2017
- GA102-009 Enclosure - large enclosure
Description
On a S-facing slope in rough grassland. This poorly preserved irregular enclosure (c. 72m E-W) is defined by a collapsed drystone wall which is indicated by a low stony mound from NE through E to SW. Field walls overlie it from NE to E and at SW; traces of an internal revetment are visible from E to S. Apart from slight traces at W, no visible surface trace of the enclosing element survives from SW to NE. An entrance gap (Wth 2m) occurs at E, its N side is defined by a large upright slab. A roughly NNW-SSE running field wall cuts across the monument from WNW to SSW and another wall running ENE-WSW extends off this, cutting the enclosing element at ENE. According to Holt (1912, 230), the 'fort' was known as 'Parknaree' and the only tradition he heard regarding it was that people were buried in it. Within the E half of the interior lie the remains of another enclosure (GA102-009001-). Current aerial imagery (Google 2019) indicates that houses have been built in the field immediately to the W of the NNW-SSE running field wall.
