- LI023-030 Religious house - Franciscan Third Order Regular
Description
In gently undulating pasture. Rectangular structure (dims. internal 5.7m N-S; 13m E-W) defined by remains of sod-covered stone wall (Wth 0.8m; L 1.2m; ext. H 1.55m) of roughly coursed and mortared limestone at N, E and S; best preserved at W-end of S wall. Collapse along W-side of monument, S-end of E-wall and off-centre to W in S-wall. Interior is higher than exterior at W, where wall has collapsed inwards and is grassed over. Low earthen mound encloses wall to S and W-sides; gap off-centre to W of S-side. Interior covered by bracken and briars. Remains of friary of Franciscan Third Order Regular (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 270). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 1 November 2013

Description
In gently undulating pasture, on N bank of Camoge River. No visible surface trace of 'Grave Yard' marked on 1840 OS map on N bank of river. This area now covered by linear spoil heap (Wth c. 4-5m) of material dredged from the river in 1978; landowner remembers area with low, uninscribed gravemarkers before the dredging. Description
Roadside, adjacent to concrete-block wall. No visible surface trace of stone named 'Cloghleagaun' on 1928 OS 6-inch map. Described in 1840 as 'a stone called Cloch a Líagáin which measures five feet [1.5m] in height and three feet [0.9m] in diameter, stands erect in a green field in (near) the centre of the townland of Friarstown and a few yards to the west of Ahanvocky [Ahavackig], Aith an Bhacaigh' (OSL Caherelly Parish, 101). Recorded in 1916 as lying 'prostrate' beside an 'old road' (LI023-035----) called 'Boherliagan' (Lynch 1916-19, 11). Description
Existing roads over site of trackway so although its route exists, there is no visible surface trace of original trackway. Present road aligned by mixture of earthen and hedgerow field boundaries and modern walls where houses are, and post & wire fencing in places also. Two standing stones (LI023-032---- and LI023-033----) close to west of road and one stone (LI023-034----) a little further to W. Named 'Boherleagaun' on latest ed. OS 6-inch map (1928). Description
In wet, water-shaped pasture, 120m E of a watercourse. Ring-barrow (LI023-242----) 15m to S. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified as a suboval-shaped cropmark by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 13301: AP 4/3656). Monument is visible as a suboval-shaped earthwork (approx. 24m N-S; 19m E-W) on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 01/10/2015. Description
On low-lying, improved wet pasture 10m E of a land drain and a plot of forestry and 15m S of a farm trackway. A townland boundary with Friarstown lies 200m to E and the Camoge River lies 230m to S. Ring-barrow (LI023-243----) lies 14m to E. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Identified as a circular-shaped cropmark by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 13401: AP 4/3656). Monument is visible as a circular-shaped earthwork (diam. 15m) on OSi aerial orthophoto taken 2005-2012 and is evident as an oblong-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 2011-2013 and on Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017.
