• RO028-209001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle SE-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 24m E-W; 23m N-S) defined by an earthen scrub-covered bank (Wth 4.7-5.7m; int. H 0.1-0.5m; ext. H 1.25-1.75m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.2m) NW-N-NE. A rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.1-6.2m; Wth of base 2.5-2.7m; D 0.5-1m) survives ENE-S-WNW, and the entrance (Wth 3m) and causeway (Wth 2.2m) are at ENE. A rectangular enclosure or annexe (RO028-209002-) (dims 26m NNE-SSW; 25m WNW-ESE) is attached to the E, and is defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth 5.4m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1.4m) and rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.6m; Wth of base 2.3m; D 0.7m) at S, but the perimeter is cut by a quarry at E and an NW-SE drystone wall and townland boundary with Carroward at N.   Description

  On a gentle SE-facing slope. Rectangular area (dims 26m NNE-SSW; 25m WNW-ESE) attached to the E of rath (RO028-209001-), defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (Wth 5.4m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1.4m) and rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.6m; Wth of base 2.3m; D 0.7m) at S, but the perimeter is cut by a quarry at E and an NW-SE drystone wall and townland boundary with Carroward at N. • RO028-249 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  At the bottom of a slight NE-facing slope with outcropping rock. Oval grass-covered area (int. dims 44.8m NNE-SSW; 37.5m WNW-ESE) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth 3-4m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.4-0.6m) with intermittently visible facing stones (original Wth 1.4m at at S). The original entrance is not identified. There is a quarry (diam. 6m; D 0.2m) inside the perimeter at S, and a quarry (Wth of base 6m; D 0.2-0.6m) outside the perimeter SE-SW. The interior is traversed by a WNW-ESE stone wall and townland boundary which also partly overlies the perimeter at W (L 7m) and E (L 11m). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
