  Description

  Just off the crest of the W-facing slope of a hill. Subcircular grass-covered mound (dims 27m N-S; 24.2m E-W; H 0.3-0.6m) defined by a fosse (Wth of top 5.4m at E to 10.5m at W; Wth of base 2.5-4.4m; D 1.45-1.75m) and a scrub-covered outer bank (Wth 4.5-6.4m; H 0.7-0.9m) which is incorporated into a field bank NE-SE and has been removed SSW-WNW. The W edge of the mound has also been cut back (max. ext. dim. 46m N-S). Pond barrow (RO035-077----) is c. 50m to the NE and embanked barrow (RO035-078----) is c. 60m to the E.   Description

  At the crest of the W-facing slope of a hill. Circular, grass-covered concave area (diam. 25m N-S; 24.4m E-W; D 0.8-1.3m) defined by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 4.8-7.1m; Wth of top 1.5-2.2m; ext. H 0.2-0.45m), which is surmounted by a field wall NNW-ENE. Ring-barrow (RO035-076----) is c. 50m to the SW and embanked barrow (RO035-078----) is c. 50m to the S.   Description

  At the summit of a broad hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 15m E-W; 14.3m N-S) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth 3.5-4.5m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.45-0.85m) but the perimeter has been disturbed NNW-SSE (ext. diam. 21.4m E-W; 19.8m N-S). Pond-barrow (RO035-077----) is c. 50m to the N and ring-barrow (RO035-076----) is c. 60m to the W.   Description

  Towards the top of the gentle N-facing slope of a hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. c. 60m) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 1.45-2.7m; int. H 0.1-0.3m; ext. H 0.9-1.75m), and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 4.5-5m; Wth of base 1.8-3m; D 0.7-0.9m) SE-NW. The bank is incorporated into a field wall E-SE which continues on the outer edge of the fosse SE-SSW.   Description

  At the crest of a W-facing slope of a broad hill. Circular grass-covered and flat-topped mound (diam. of top 8.8m; diam. of base 10.5m E-W; 10.2m N-S; H 0.2m) defined by a fosse (Wth of top 3-3.3m; Wth of base 0.9-1.3m; D 0.2-0.4m) and an outer bank (Wth 2.5-2.9m; H 0.3-0.4m).   Description

  Towards the bottom of a S-facing slope. Circular overgrown platform (diam. of top 9.3m E-W; diam. of base 13.5m E-W; H 0.3-0.4m) defined by a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 8.5-9.7m; Wth of base 3-3.2m; D 0.5-0.9m) and outer bank (Wth 5.3-6.4m; H 0.3-0.7m) which is incorporated into a field bank WSW-NNW. A NW-SE field bank truncates the bank and fosse at NW. There is no visible entrance (max. ext. diam. 31.5m E-W). Earthwork (RO035-084----) is c. 150m to the N.   On as gentle E-facing slope. Circular grass-covered mound (diam. 18.6m N-S; 18.2m E-W; H 0.4-0.6m generally to 1m at E) separated by a berm (Wth 3-5m) from an earthen bank (Wth 5.5-7m; H 0.05-0.1m).   Description

  On an E-facing slope. Circular grass-covered platform (diam. 27.6m N-S; 26.3m E-W; H 1.1-1.9m) with a slight bank (int. H 0.25m) on the perimeter ESE-SW, separated by a rounded fosse (Wth of top 9.3-11.3m; Wth of base 2.3-3.7m; D 0.35-0.95m) from an outer bank (H 0.15m) which only survives W-NW and NNE-ENE. The entrance and causeway (Wth 3.5m) are at SSW, and the edge of the platform is damaged by quarrying N-ESE (max. ext. diam. 53.5m E-W; 48.6m N-S). Rath (RO039-013----) is c. 130m to the E.   Description

  On a gentle NE-facing slope. An irregularly-shaped grass-covered platform (dims 27.6m N-S; 21.5m E-W), the perimeter of which has been entirely quarried, is defined by a scarp (H 1.3-1.8m) and a rounded fosse (Wth of base 3.2-3.6m; ext. D 0.1m at S to 0.65m at W) which is preserved in its original condition only at N (Wth of top 7.3m; Wth of base 1.9m; ext. D 0.4m). There is an entrance ramp and causeway (Wth 2m) at SSE, and the fosse is largely filled in E-S (max. ext. dim. 41.7m N-S). Rath (RO039-012----) is c. 130m to the W. • RO039-101 Burial
  Description

  Situated on a general SE-facing slope. Archaeological testing (15E0138) in advance of a 2.5km road improvement scheme on the N61 road about 2.5km N of the northern edge of Roscommon town identified an E-W inhumation with the head at the W adjacent to a post-medieval drain. Further excavation recorded three undated pits (F 25 dims 0.9m x 0.7m; D 0.45m: F 30 dims 1.08m x 0.91m; F 31 dims 4.55m x 2.77m) and a post-medieval slot-trench. The inhumation is of an adult in a Christian mode and the discovery of a possible shroud-pin was made nearby. • Fortview House, house, 1760–1780 · Regional interest
  Description

  Detached three-bay two-storey over basement house, built c.1770, with improvements including first floor projection to rear supported on concrete columns and entrance porch to front elevation, added c.1860. U-plan hipped slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered walls with stucco quoins. Square-headed window openings with timber sash windows and stone sills. Rusticated entrance porch with stucco dentil cornice and castellated parapet contains a segmental-headed door opening with plain overlight and timber panelled door with stained glass panels. Outbuilding to enclosed rear yard with central carriage arch opening. Single-storey three-bay gate lodge with pedimented entrance porch to roadside with rendered gate piers. Multiple-bay two-storey derelict outbuildings to west of house.
